Categorize customers using customer tags

Use tags to filter debtors and change their chasing status and schedule quickly and easily.

Customer tags in Chaser pull through the customer groups and customer tracking categories from Xero, Zapier and Chase Import. Use this feature to help categorise customers and improve reporting.

All customer tags is visible on the customer specific page. You can filter customers by tags on the Receivables page on the Customer tab. You can then select some or all customers with a specified tag to make bulk changes to their chasing status or schedule.

Chaser updates Tags when you have edited a customer within Xero. Select Edit customer when adding a new group to an existing customer in Xero.Add a space to the end of the company name, then remove the space added, then save the contact update.

Tags are currently only available to Xero, Zapier, and Chase Import users. They are not supported at the invoice level.


Updating or adding new tags in Xero

When using Chaser with Xero, updated tags/groups do not automatically sync after they are created or updated in Xero. This is due to a limitation on Xero, which prevents these changes from being automatically reflected in Chaser. While this limitation has always existed, it may not be immediately apparent to users. To help you manage this, we’ve outlined the key details and a simple workaround.

When an organization is first connected to Chaser, all existing tags/groups from Xero are synced correctly during the initial setup.

For updates to tags or groups, Chaser can only pull these changes if notified by Xero that an update has occurred. However, if the tag is the only change made to a customer, this notification is not triggered. To ensure updates are reflected in Chaser, please follow the workaround outlined below.


Workaround for Adding New Groups in Xero

When adding or updating a tag for a customer in Xero, you can ensure it syncs with Chaser by making a small additional edit to the customer, such as adding or removing a space in the customer name. This triggers an update in Chaser, letting us know that a change has occurred, and ensures the tag becomes available in Chaser.
