How to filter customers by net balance

Gain better visibility into your customers' financial standing by filtering and sorting them based on their net balance. This feature helps you quickly identify who owes you money, who is fully settled, and which accounts are in credit

Why filter by net balance?

Filtering by net balance allows you to take targeted actions on specific groups of customers. Rather than reviewing customers one by one, you can use these filters to:

  • Identify overpayments: Quickly find customers with a credit balance to process refunds or notify them of unused credits.

  • Prevent awkward chasing: Bulk pause chasing for customers who are in credit or have a zero balance to ensure you only chase those who truly owe payment.

  • Segment your chasing: Move customers with unapplied credits to a different schedule that handles their account status more gently.


How to use the net balance filter

You can access the net balance filter directly from your Receivables view.

1. Navigate to Receivables in the main side menu.

2. Select the Customers tab.

3. Click the Filter button.

4. Choose Net balance from the dropdown menu.


You can also sort the entire customer list by clicking the Net balance column header to organize amounts from highest to lowest (or vice versa).

Understanding the filter options

When filtering, you will see three options. Here is what each one means:

Filter Option Definition What it looks like
Net balance > 0 Net balance in debit. The customer owes you money. These are positive values representing outstanding debt. £1,250.00
Net balance = 0 The customer is fully settled. They do not owe you anything, and you do not owe them. £0.00
Net balance < 0 Net balance in credit. The customer has a negative balance, meaning they have overpaid, or prepaid an invoice which needs to be raised and applied, or the customer has a credit note which exceeds their total invoice balance. (£1,250.00)
